Mauritius

The official name is the Republic of Mauritius.

The capital is Port Louis.

Area: 865 sq. km (2045 sq. km with adjacent islands). The length of the island is 65 km, width - 48 km. The total length of the coastline is 330 km, of which 160 km are sandy beaches.

Population: 1.263 million (2022 est.).

Major languages: English, French, Creole, Hindi, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Marathi, Telegu, Tamil etc.

The currency is the Mauritian rupee. Approximate exchange rate: 1 USD = 46 MUR, 1 EUR = 50 MUR (rate may vary). It is recommended to change money at the airport upon arrival.

The main sectors of the economy are tourism, agriculture and cane sugar production, textile industry, offshore manufacturing and offshore banking, jewelry industry, export of seafood, tropical fruits, flowers, etc.

Mauritius is an island nation in the southwestern Indian Ocean, 850 km east of Madagascar. The nearest continent is Africa.

Mauritius is a volcanic island, surrounded on all sides by a coral reef - it serves as a breakwater and protects the beaches from sharks.

Mauritius has a maritime subtropical climate with 2 seasons:

▶️  SUMMER from October to April, is considered the hottest and most humid period. Air temperature from +26°С to +32°С. Short-term rains.

▶️ WINTER from May to September. Air temperature from +25°С to +30°С. In the evening and at night the temperature can drop by 3°-6°С, especially in the central part of the island.

The water temperature in the ocean all year round is from +20°С in winter and +29°С.

There are no poisonous snakes, insects or dangerous animals on the island. No special vaccinations against tropical diseases are needed.

The island has a very low crime rate.
