Kayseri

A small Turkish town lying in the mysterious region of Cappadocia

Kayseri is an important center of industry and Turkish business. It is a very modern city with many new buildings. There are not so many important ancient sights here. But tourists are not attracted by them at all, but by the slopes of the extinct volcano Erciyes and the ski resort . Prices for holidays in Kayseri are quite different. Everything depends on the choice of hotel and entertainment.

✔️ A bit of chronology and facts

In ancient times, the city was at the crossroads of trade routes. It was inhabited by the Hittites as early as the 3rd millennium BC. The Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Armenians, Byzantines and Seljuks visited here. The last to capture these lands were the Ottomans.

Today Kayseri is a city with a population of over a million. The ski resort was built recently, but it has already become a popular winter holiday destination in Turkey, and the best hotels in Kayseri constantly receive positive reviews from tourists.

The main reason why it is worth finding and choosing a tour online to Kayseri is winter entertainment on the mountain slopes. The second most important leisure activity is shopping. Here it is no worse than in Istanbul. You can also arrange a walk with a tour of ancient sights or go on an off-site excursion to nearby interesting locations.

Kayseri is located in the continental climate zone with hot summers and severe winters. The ski season lasts from about the end of November to the end of April.

The city has several shopping centers, shops and an indoor Grand Bazaar, which is believed to have opened in the 15th century. You can buy clothes, shoes, electronics. At the market you will find a merchant's flavor and a variety of traditional souvenirs .

Not far from Kayseri is the town of Banyan, where silk carpets are made.

In this region you will not find the usual Turkish beach landscapes. But believe me, here you can have no less exciting entertainment than on the hot coast.

▶️ Ancient landmarks

The city is often called a hub before Cappadocia. If you have a weekend tour to Kayseri, you can devote part of the day to exploring interesting buildings and locations. These include old quarters and an ethnographic museum located in a beautiful 15th-century mansion with a collection of ancient artifacts from the times of the Greeks, Romans, Seljuks and others.

The Kursunlu Mosque is one of the main architectural landmarks of the city. It was built in 1576. The architect was Mimar Sinan, who created the incredible Istanbul mosques Suleymaniye and Shehzade. There is even a monument to the master near Kursunlu.

Great-grandchildren of the Armenian people, who were here at a certain period of history, live in Kayseri. The main evidence of their presence is the Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator. It was built in the distant 12th century, it amazes with its scale.

Not far from the city, in the village of Endurluk, there is a half-ruined Christian church. If you like abandoned buildings, then you should definitely visit this place - the atmosphere of antiquity and mystery is guaranteed.

For those who want to immerse themselves more in the past, there is an opportunity to go on an excursion to Cappadocia and explore the rock and underground cities of this region.

▶️ Nature

There are also plenty of picturesque landscapes here. The main natural attraction is the extinct volcano Erciyes. In addition to the ski resort, it is notable for its trekking routes and places for mountaineering.

You can go rafting on the Zamanti River, and in the Derebagh Waterfall Nature Park you can enjoy peace and dinner in a restaurant right next to the waterfall.

There are several national parks located further from Kayseri. Aladaglar is famous for its multi-colored mountains, picturesque valleys and waterfalls.

There are several large lakes in the Sultansazligi Nature Reserve. More than 300 species of songbirds and birds of prey live here. You can see flamingos, cranes, red ducks, various teals and mallards, geese and many, many others.

▶️ Winter fun

Many people want to buy a tour to Kayseri because of the opportunity to ski on the slopes of Erciyes. And this is an understandable decision, because they want to make the resort the main location for winter sports. Construction is in full swing, and the infrastructure is developing - hotels of different levels, ski lifts, covering the slopes with artificial snow if necessary.

The trails are laid at an altitude of 2100-3400 m above sea level, the slopes are free of vegetation, the road is visible for kilometers ahead. There are different routes and levels, the length of the descent varies from 1 to 2.6 km. The difference in altitude on the trails is approximately 800-1200 m. For lovers of night skiing, there is a route with illumination.

The range of entertainment at the resort includes many leisure options. In addition to skiing, you can visit the skating rink, go sledding or dog sledding, or take a walk in snowmobiles. You will also have the opportunity to play tennis, bowling, squash, do fitness, practice mountaineering on the climbing wall, go for a horse ride, swim in the pool, have fun on the water slides. You can relax after an active day in the sauna.

Kayseri is a great place for a varied holiday. The region will be interesting in itself and as an interesting point on the route through Turkey.
