The city was founded in the 14th century on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River. The capital was moved to the settlement of Thonburi, and then to Rattanakosin Island. Today these are districts of Bangkok. The city became an independent province only in 1972.

This Buddhist shrine is made in the Cambodian style. The buildings of the complex are decorated with colored porcelain, granite, marble, statues of gods, animals, people, stucco, frescoes.
◼️ The Temple of the Reclining Buddha first of all amazes with a 46-meter statue decorated with gold foil. It is also the largest sacred building in the capital. 
◼️ Another place where you can admire a huge statue is the Temple of the Golden Buddha. Here the sculpture reaches 5 m. It is said that it is made of pure gold. The shrine is located in Chinatown, which is also interesting for viewing. There are also Chinese sacred buildings here.
◼️ The Temple of the Golden Mount, built back in the days when Bangkok was not the capital. Since the 18th century, the shrine has been completed until it acquired its current appearance. The main relic is a part of the Buddha's ashes. The temple stands on an artificial hill, with 318 steps leading to the top. Once you climb, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

In addition to sacred buildings, the historical center, located on the island of Rattanakosin, attracts with fortifications, canals, and towers.

◼️ Bang Kachao is an artificial island with an area of ​​1920 hectares. It is often called the "lungs" of Bangkok. The government wants to preserve the nature in this place, however, the problem with land for development complicates this task. The island is covered with jungle, tamarinds, mangroves, palms and other tropical plants grow here. Concrete roads, wooden and dirt paths are laid for walks. You can watch birds from a special tower, walk along the river and canals, feed the fish. 
◼️ Lumpini Park, occupying 57 hectares. It was founded in the first half of the 20th century. On the territory there are two lakes, a garden with palm trees, where cultural events are held. Of the fauna, turtles and monitor lizards living in canals and reservoirs are noteworthy here. The park is also equipped with sports grounds, running and cycling paths.
◼️ Chatuchak Park, which includes Queen Sirikit Park and Wachirabenchatha Park. This is a small, narrow and long park. There is an artificial pond along it. The complex has fountains, various types of palm trees, hibiscus, lotuses, water lilies, bamboo, as well as rare and endemic plants of Thailand. The park has a botanical garden with flora from different countries of the world.
